...it is possible to reduce amputation rates by at least 50 per cent through just a core strategy...
Initial screening of patients is done in a variety of clinical settings including the patient's home. Blood work, dermal thermometry, arterial and venous doppler studies, photoplethysmography, and biothesiometric evaluation are available in all settings along with state of the art wound care which utilizes multiple modalities in our clinics as well as patients' homes. Our advanced telemedicine system allows us to use remote monitoring to keep a patient's wound status current. Patient referrals and follow-ups are handled by our medical case managers, and the strength of our networks is reinforced by the team approach which keeps all of our providers apprised of a patient's progress.
The World Health Organization, in its World Diabetes Day report of 2005, said it is possible to reduce amputation rates by at least 50 per cent through just a core strategy that combines prevention, treatment of foot ulcers, close monitoring and education of people with diabetes and health care professionals.9
Building on that philosophy and adding new technological innovation in screening and treatment, we are confident in the success of our mission.
